どうか、この9月、カウナスでお会いできますことを心より楽しみにしております。 —————— Good evening Mister Kairys, the Deputy Mayor, Thank you very much for visiting Japan. And we are thankful for walking with you along NAGOYA, a place noted deeply connected with SUGIHARA CHIUNE.
During our walk just now, my mind ran through the sky, went across time, and I thought of the Kaunas City 77years ago. In the Second World War, there were leaders driven by hatred, discrimination and oppression.
They tear off people’s hearts by abusing the differences between countries, religions and nations. And in the name of the prosperity of its country, they treated people’s lives like nothing.
On 18th of July, 1940. The Japan Consulate in Kaunas was crowded by numerous of innocents. There were mothers crying for their children. And there were fathers praying exhaustedly for their wives and children.
There is no doubt, it would be much more easier to choose to do its job like everyone does as a diplomatic agency. But CHIUNE, questioned himself about the meaning of his life. And finally he found himself looking for the way of life just like everyone else.
This might be the reason why he listened to his heart and chose to disobey his country, saving people’s lifes in front of him.
After 77years, as time goes by, people are living a better life. People think that was just simply a part of the history, but is that so…
No matter time passes, there are still leaders addressing hate speech, there are countries reinforcing its military force but sacrificing their people. Terrorism, racial discrimination, hate speech never ends…
We are neither powerful politicians nor rich persons, we are just ordinary people, we are simply painters. But we are able to feel the heart beats of CHIUNE with his soul as a global citizen.
Lithuania is one of the most known Spiritual Country which achieved the independence by the Baltic Chain. As a human, exactly in this era, there is something we can do now. No, we should say there must be things to be done for this world…
The word "Paint" also means "Revive".
Let us be with CHIUNE’s heart through the Painting of SUGIHARA HOUSE. Let’s stop all the wars, say no to discrimination and oppression.
As CHIUNE always says, "Everyone has the rights to live their life happily and nobody will be left behind". We must keep telling this and let’s make our world a better place with human rights.
We look forward to seeing you in Kaunas in this September. Thank you.
